E-Mail Configuration

There are many different e-mail programs available today.  Most popular choices include "POP-3" applications, such as Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird.  These are programs that download the mail to your computer for you to read, store and answer.  Just as popular today are Web based programs such as Gmail, and Windows Live, which is Microsoft's latest incarnation of Hotmail.  Each of these requires information that identifies your account and a password.  Some will require additional settings. Below you will find the formats used by most of these programs.

NuTel offers both POP-3 and webmail availability.  You can use either, or both, depending on your needs.

Web Mail

Most webmail programs require no more than logging in using a username and password.  The username is most often your e-mail address, but sometimes it could be something you created when opening your account.  The password will be whatever you chose, or perhaps what was assigned to you.

If you are using a NuTel e-mail account you will access your mail by first opening a browser, and typing "mail.mynutel.com" and then pressing enter.  You will then be directed to our Horde Mail Server that will ask you to provide a login and password.  You will enter your full e-mail including the @mynutel.com as your username.  The password will be the one you requested at setup.  Press "Log in" and you will have full access to receive and send mail.

POP-3 Mail

POP-3 E-mail allows you to download the mail to your local computer.  In order to do this you have several settings taht must be set to meet the needs of your mail server.  As a general rule, you need a username and password.  There may be other settings required, depending on your service.

Some internal servers permit the use of the username without the ISP information (@xyz.com), but most of the time you will need to provide the full e-mail address, as you would give it to someone else to reach you.  The password will be what was assigned to or chosen by you when the account was set up.

You will also need to enter information for the incoming and outgoing mail servers known respectively as POP-3 and SMTP.  The ISP can set them both to be the same, or they could be different.

If you have a NuTel account you will configure your POP-3 account as follows:

Your Name: Whatever name you wish to show as "From" to those reading your e-mail.

E-mail address: You must use your complete address, including @mynutel.com

User Name: Again enter your complete e-mail address.

Password: Enter the password you chose, or were given, when the account was set up.

Incoming Mail Server (POP-3): mail.mynutel.com  If a port # is required, enter 110

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.mynutel.com   If a port # is required, enter 25

Check "remember password"

Do not check "use authentication (SPA)"
